"They said 'electronics!'"

I don't plan on posting every day or anything, but I feel like a few words from the first day might be important. So just a few quick random things I wanted to record :)

I don't really like flying. It kind of scares me. So I was really excited when my sister gave me a journal and told me to read her note inside of it while I was in the plane on my way. Naturally, I read it as soon as I was buckled in. I'm not sure if God could've hand picked more perfect words for me to read at the time. The comfort overwhelmed me. It wasn't comfort about airplane safety or anything, but peaceful assurance of the mastery and beauty of God's design, and the freedom we possess with Christ. My thirst was quenched.

I settled in and unpacked in Marcy and I's wonderfully tiny room for a good while today. The whole time we could hear music and laughing and talking from a dinner party outside. There is so much life here. I'm already falling in love with the feel of it all around me.

I got to talk to my parents today which was even more great because it was quite unexpected. Hearing voices from home makes me feel so less far away. I already miss everyone.

The picture is of me and my partner Marcy :) Our first picture together. We met today and there we're on the plane about to take off for Brazil from Miami. We keep realizing how grateful we are to have each other as partners through this experience. It's already obvious how wonderful it is to process everything together. It makes everything so less scary. I love how God knows that girls need other girls to relate to. Also the team here we'll be working with is very comforting and makes me feel at ease. Now I'm just looking forward to meeting the members of the church tomorrow morning :)

And So It Begins.

Oi, and welcome :)

This summer I will be doing an internship with a church in Brazil (Salvador, Bahia) for 10 weeks. Throughout the summer you can check out this site to read updates, see pictures, and who knows, maybe even leave me a comment so I can hear from home.

Currently, I'm still in the States, but my flight leaves midday Friday. I'll meet up with my partner, Marcy Owens from Harding University, along the way. We'll land in Salvador this Saturday. :)

It's funny what God sends your way when you stop trying to plan out how you think things should be. I never could have dreamed this for myself. This semester has surrounded me with a whirlwind of surprises and I expect nothing less from my experience with the people I'll encounter this summer.

P.S. Today is my mother's birthday..Happy Birthday Mom :)
